Why The Porch?
As we get to know our neighbors, we greet one another from our porch, we welcome our neighbors to sit with us on our porch, and we share a cold beverage on our porch. It's usually from the entry point of our porch that we welcome people into our home and into a relationship.
The Porch is the newest initiative of So Shine - and it is how we are getting to know our neighbors - and community - even better!
The Porch sits at the corner of Main Street and 7th Street - in the heart of downtown Newton.
One way we are getting to know our neighbors at The Porch is through our Later@ThePorch after school program! Every day during the school year, we welcome Newton's 5th and 6th graders to enjoy a safe place to hang out with friends and build community with one another. Another activity at The Porch is our weekly community meal The Table. Every Wednesday night we host a dinner for EVERYONE in our community! All are welcome to gather around the table for a shared meal and opportunity to build community with one another.
Our desire is that as we continue to get to know our neighbors at The Porch, strong community and connection will form!
Book Our Space!
We love seeing our space at the Porch full of students as well as community members. We would invite you to consider using our space for any events, family reunions, work gatherings, or other activities that you need a large space for.
